The best laid plans of mice and men
could not have accounted for the poor weather we suffered at the start of the summer. Our
"best laid plans" saw our Summer Camp preparations for 28 Scouts in Sedbergh,
Cumbria thrown out of the window when water logging caused our farm field booking to be
cancelled three days before camp. When the rain falls in Cumbria it falls long and hard!
Help
was at hand though, and the local Scouting people pulled out all the stops and organised a
new farm field for us.
The bad weather continued throughout Summer Camp week, with rain every day, some days
falling all day. It is a credit to the quality of our Scouts, and particularly the Patrol
Leaders, that we survived the week with most of the lads kit staying dry and wood fires
lit to cook meals on most occasions...
