During December 1999 Adderbury Scouts once again
ran their annual Christmas Card Delivery Service. £413 was raised
for the Troop - £47 more than in 1998. Around four thousand cards and parcels were
delivered. Adderbury's Post Office looked after two post boxes and
door-to-door collections were made on the two Sunday's before Christmas.
As usual we dealt with a fair selection of incorrectly
addressed cards, ranging from those without house numbers, to those simply containing two
Christian names. We (hopefully) successfully located all but one card which was beyond
even us it was simply addressed "Jane"! The village delivery
service also successfully delivered cards to Deddington, Kings Sutton, Bodicote and
Sussex, albeit with a little help, and 26p stamps from the Post Office!
Once again Banbury's local newspaper "The Banbury
Guardian" was in on the action, calling in the sorting office to take a picture for
that week's edition. Funds raised at the Christmas Card Delivery Service are
used to subsidise the Troop's many camps and other activities. |
