As the year started Nick Godfrey took over as the Merlins' PL for a few months.   When he left the position was offered to Stuart Keen who accepted and remained as Merlin's PL for three years.

Andy Whitehead (Tigers), Simon Ewles (Kestrels) and Neil Belcher (Otters) remained as PLs throughout 1988.

During May the Troop attended the District Camp at Horley.

In 1988 the PLs and Leaders decided they needed to do something to encourage older Scouts to stay with the Troop.   So a series of extra special Older Scouts (OS) activities were invented.   From the summer of 1988 the over 13s got to try things like dry slope skiing, flying, gaining a 1 star British canoe union award, and ten pin bowling.

As the troop continued weekly litter clearing for the Parish Council an extra sponsored litter clear was organised as well.  What fun!

As part of the British Meat Cooking Competition the patrols cooked meals and for some reason the PLs got to taste and mark as well as cook!
