SANTA FORCED TO WALK AFTER SLEIGH BREAKS DOWN!

If Santa looks a little thinner this Christmas it is due to all the exercise he had in Adderbury on Friday evening (December 18, 2009).

With help from Banbury Cross Round Table and Adderbury Scouts, Santa was due to travel around the village onboard his sleigh.   Unfortunately just fifty metres from the start of the route the sleigh developed a flat tyre and it soon became apparent the problem could not be fixed quickly.

Rather than disappoint all the young people in Adderbury who were waiting for his arrival Santa agreed with the 1st Adderbury leaders to take to his feet and walk the route, accompanied by his little helpers from the Cubs and Scouts.

After three hours Santa had covered a large proportion of the village and seemed rather pleased to receive a plateful of mince pies and a glass of mulled wine!

Scout Leader Andy Green said, “When it became apparent there was a major problem with Santa’s sleigh we had two options.   Cancelling the evening and disappointing the young people in the village was not an option, so we decided to walk the route instead.

“Progress was much slower on foot, and we didn’t manage to cover the entire village.   People were still very generous with the door to door collection, and as Santa was on foot lots of children got the chance to go and speak to him.”

Whilst the Scout Group took Santa around the village members of the Round Table rushed back to Banbury to get the sleigh repaired so that the tours planned on Saturday and Sunday could take place.

Andy Green added, “It was a really cold night with fresh snow on the ground, so rushing round the village on foot certainly helped to keep us all warm.   And after all that exercise I expect Santa won’t have any trouble getting down any chimneys this year!”
