SIX SCOUTS ACHIEVE TOP SCOUTING AWARD

Six Scouts at the 1st Adderbury Troop have achieved the top award possible for members.

The Chief Scout’s Gold Award is the culmination of a youngster’s time in Scouts and shows true commitment and determination through a series of difficult challenges and tests, completed over four years.

At the Troop’s meeting on 3rd March 3rd 2015 in Adderbury Institute the North Oxfordshire District Commissioner, Nick Davis, presented Ben Brown, Alfie Bullus, Danny O’Toole, Dylan Patel, Bryn Taylor-Evans and Iwan Taylor-Evans with their awards infront of the Troop’s other members and their families.   The Scouts will now attend a prestigious County awards ceremony in May.

Scout Leader Andy Green said, “Ben, Alfie, Danny, Dylan, Bryn and Iwan have worked really hard for this award.   To gain it they have taken part in various outdoor activities, learned life skills, and also given up some of their spare time to perform valuable tasks in the community.   Having six Scouts all gain the award in one year is something we are very proud of.”

“The Chief Scout’s Gold Award is highly respected and something which will aid them as they seek college or university places, and apply for jobs in the future.    By showing true determination and commitment to achieve this award they have gained a head start over their peers, demonstrating they have the key skills any employer would look for in an employee.”

District Commissioner Nick Davis added, “It is always a pleasure to see young people achieve great things in scouting. The Gold Chief Scout's Award is highest award in the scout section and is gained through a high level of dedication and hard work in learning new skills and putting them into practice”.

To pass the award the Scouts completed a series of badges and took on various leadership roles and responsibility within the Troop, completed community work.   They also  learned various life skills and attempted various adventurous activities including a mountain expedition, white water rafting, canoeing, high ropes course, caving and motor sports.

Commenting on achieving the Chief Scouts Gold Award Dylan Patel said, “All the hours it took to achieve this are well worth it and will be looked back on as a highlight of my teenage years.

Iwan Taylor-Evans added , “Getting the Chief Scouts Gold Award will help me stand out from the crowd.   I have worked hard for it over the past 4 years and was really happy when I finally received it”.
