GEORGE DING RECEIVES THE TOP SCOUT AWARD

A Scout at the 1st Adderbury Troop has achieved the top award possible for his age group.

The Chief Scout’s Gold Award is the culmination of a young person’s four years as a Scout and shows true commitment and determination through a series of difficult challenges and tests.

At the Troop’s meeting on February 5th North Oxfordshire District Commissioner, Brian Sargent, presented George Ding with his award infront of the Troop’s other members and George’s family.   George, who is a pupil at Bloxham School, will now attend a prestigious county presentation in Eynsham in March.

District Commissioner Brian Sargent said, “Today young people need to do all they can to stand out from the crowd when applying for a job or university place.   The Chief Scout's Gold Award is a great way to do that.   George is to be congratulated on his hard work in completing all the challenges in this award”.

Scout Leader Andy Green said, “Completing the Chief Scout’s Gold Award requires a lot of commitment, loyalty, determination and self-motivation.   So many of George’s peers will not manage to complete the award which demonstrates this achievement is something rather special.”

He added, “At 1st Adderbury we are all very proud of George.”

To pass the award George completed a series of badges and took on various leadership roles, completed community work at Christopher Rawlins Primary School, Adderbury, learned various life skills, attended various camps and attempted adventurous activities including a two day expedition, gliding, kayaking and motor sports.
